E3005 Surtsey 50 edition

Surtsey is an island just off Iceland which was born rather spectacularly in a violent volcanic eruption in the sea. The black volcanic earth, sterile but full of nutrients soon became colonised by plants.  This particular blossom represents the tremendous  potency of nature, striving to exist in the most hostile of environments. The base is black and flecked with gold aventurine.
